2nd Session Theme “Kioku no Yukue (Where Our Memories Go)”

It is estimated that our body consists of about 37 trillion cells and each cell contains a huge amount of genetic information (memory) passed down from generation to generation since the origin of life.
In the present day, we understand, make judgments and live our lives based on the historical and cultural “memory” of mankind. The memory of disasters, the memory of wars, or the memory of our personal history—what memories are encoded in us? Will these memories be forgotten some day in the future?
Artificial intelligence (AI) or machine intelligence has started “remembering” everything in the world, from how to drive cars to how to recognize faces. In response to the emergence of AI, we would like to focus on memory and rethink what the meaning of “memory” is.
The Art Award IN THE CUBE is waiting for your message for the unseen future, transmitted from a joroku*1 cuboid space.

※1 )Legend says that the Buddha was ichi-jo-roku-shaku, or approx. 4.8 m, tall. For this reason, some statues of the Buddha were created in joroku size. For this exhibition, we adopted joroku as the size of the cubicle, inspired by the theme of the AAIC 2017, “Shintai no Yukue (Whereabouts of the Body).”
