Piece concept (comment from the artist at the time of selection)

I came up with the idea of turning scars into beauty from the artistic theory of kintsugi, or repairing pottery with a golden lacquer, and created my pieces through the medium of glass. Scars are one form of memory. They are simple representations of people and nature as they go against, no matter how minutely, the ever flowing concept of time. The idea that scars and memories are one is something that I think has always been part of mankind. The place where blood spilled out; the remembrance of pain—it forever continues to live on where the injury took place. However, we are able to change how we look at those scars. We can even conceal them, add makeup to them, or give them some new meaning. At times, we may even see them as the embodiment of our faults or give them names like hope, emotion, or a memory. My pieces are articles of clothing like, say, a one-piece dress that belonged to someone at one time, made of thin glass. The golden scars fasten together the light glass pieces, giving shape to the clothing. The special characteristic of the glass used as the material is its fragile transience. Those who look on are confronted with a certain sense of unease. I believe this sensation is close to either a feeling of fret or surrender from the fact that staying in this present time does not last forever. I want to try describing the story of the scars held by everyone in an atmosphere filled with that very sensation which the pieces offer.

These pieces are created from glass and symbolize the clothes that people may once have worn, telling the story of scars as memories.
Some people conceal this beautiful notion, and others wear it on their sleeve; some expose it, and others live it without ever knowing.
