Cognitive scientist Mark Changizi and coworkers demonstrated that the distribution of geometric patterns that appear in a landscape matches that of patterns in the letters of all languages (Changizi et al., 2006). The results of their research show that the shapes of the letters may have converged and evolved to adapt to the human's aquired ability to observe nature.
In this work, 36 geometric patterns presented in the research are extracted from framed landscape images, etc., using an algorithm developed by ourselves, and the text that matches the patterns is identified from the vast amount of Japanese texts existing on the Internet. The scenes that emerge from this process evoke a feeling that all the words we have said, spelled and read have previously been woven into the scenes we see on a daily basis as possibilities.
By connecting “looking around oneself” and “language” that constitute the foundation of our perception of the world, this work shakes up our reality that is here and now.
